Great score David!! Perhaps my next year's budget will allow for more than a 'rarity' or two but probably not LOL Titus seems pleased to be free I'm about to copy your storage format as well....or should I be thanking Doug??
Weird there's no grade. I would have left it in the slab myself, because that's how the rest of my collection is. I like the display of the slab, and the protection it offers. But, I understand that many ancient collectors despise slabs. Glad you were able to pick up a rare coin. Congrats!
Nice coin, I am glad your years of searching have paid off and you were ablessed to add this rare type to your collection . When I acquire a new ancient that is stabbed I follow this procedure: 1. look at the coin in the slab to make sure I like it. 2. mutter under my breath about how putting ancient coins into sealed plastic holders is a travesty and wonder if the same people are drawing up plans to turn the Colosseum into a water park. 3. photograph the coin in the slab. 4. break the slab 5. the coin then goes into a Safe-Flip and into my notebook where I can take it out, look at it and hold it any time I like. I do keep the label from the slab in a separate location.
You have to admit, that's actually a pretty great idea. You could have water slides that end in the tiger cages, and you could flood the whole stadium and re-enact naval battles. You could have a log ride on an aqueduct.... man, the possibilities here are endless!
Am I to late to chime in on this coin? A fantastic rarity David, I'm very happy you were able to rescue it. I've more or less given up on Heritage so I wasn't involved in the fight. (The reason being their photography highlights the slab rather than the coin and I find it very tedious.) The coin is wonderful but your narrative really brings it to life. I enjoy reading about your coins nearly as much as seeing them.
Thanks Nemo! To be honest, this is the kind of coin that gets me really excited - two weeks later and I'm still mooning over it. I'd much rather have an extremely rare worn coin than a pristine common one.
