For those of you who think the Chinese counterfeit mainly gold and silver, and don't bother with coppers, consider this: Some beauty-full half cents, large cents, and Indianheads here; look quick, before the forklift puts them on the truck.
those thing will flud the market so fast... argh i hate to say this if they passed certification or where even decent it would be horrid
There's no reason to think they haven't already been in the market for years. This image appeared on the Kitco forum 4 years ago.
Yes, I had seen the image before, but didn't know the year. I posted it for CT-er's who'd never realized the copper problem; it sure makes an impression.
It just underscores the reality that we must assume we're swimming in shark-infested waters regardless of what we're shopping for.
To me the take away from images like this is that you can pretty much scare yourself into anything if you look around the internet enough. By the time those images surfaced it had probably already been going on for years. The quick conclusion seems to always be that everything is doomed and its impossible to buy anymore, when the truth is we have all already been operating in this environment for quite sometime.
A friend of mine just got taken by an 1804 half cent, vf/xf with coloring and spotting that would sure make you think genuine.......The edge showed some striations like the coin was ejected out of a poorly finished collar.
I got one of these in my early "roll searching" days. I bought a few off Ebay, ended up with a better date IH cent, took it to a show thinking it would fund a bit of shopping, and found out it was a fake.
