Well, as the title mentioned this is a monumental post for me. Today I went to the coin store and stepped into two strange worlds...one of Franklin Halves, other of toned coins. This is the first time I'll be sharing photos of my first Franklins. Instead of taking up a lot of space with the photos on here you are more than welcome to visit them at the photobucket link listed below. Just a preface about the photos: I don't have a camera. These coins are scanned and really don't do them all too much justice for terms of luster and tone as light is really needed to see those aspects. Also, some of the fine details may be a bit shady, but I did my best in adjusting the preferences of the scan. Also, any comments you want to make about the coins feel free to make them, positive or negative. I took great time and deliberation over these and they will always be treasured in my eye no matter what comments you can provide. Besides, it will serve as a good learning opportunity for me. I know what I would grade them; I know what the dealer grades them, so your feedback will, as always, be valued. Today was also a great Merc dime day. I found the variation of 1928S I've been hunting for some time. Even though the small is not in a condition the rest of my album is in, it was definately worth the buy, especially when they were both in the same lot. I also found two toned Mercs. Again, doesn't match the rest of my gray/brilliant white silver collection, but my first thought on looking at them was, "Well, that's different!" So it was an impusle buy. I know very little about toning and I know I definately can't tell if it's artificial or not. My guess is that they were toned from being in an album. They are consecutive years. One is toned on the obverse, the other on the reverse. Both of them are hued bright green and scarlet...rather Christmas festive if you ask me. Sorry, no pics of these as the scanner didn't show the tone at all.

Well, this is my first step to an uncirculated set of Franklins. Special thanks to the coin dealer for the patience and to you guys on cointalk for your help. Special thanks to physicsfan for providing the very informative link to his set. Now, without further delay, the pics. Enjoy!

http://s765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/dimeguy_2010/
