I had been looking for a place to cash in my canadian coins for months here in the city. When I took a trip up to Minnesota, the local bank would only take my $1 loon coins and $2 coins. Finally a customer at my bank told me to go to Bart's coins. It's on Pulaski about a block or two north of Irving Park, he pays 60 cents on the dollar, so for my $150 canadian I got 90 bucks. Not bad considering I've been holding onto these for over three years! He also took my Euro coins and paid on the dollar for those. If anybody has a good pile of Canadian coins and lives in Chicago, this is the only place I know of to cash them in.
