Back in the 1960s, dealers advertised and sold many "PDS sets," especially for Lincoln cents. There were 2X2 cardboard holders that held the three coins from the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. I was looking in my safe deposit box the other day. I realized that I had a "PCDO set" and never realized it. These Classic Head Quarter Eagles are from the four mints that the U.S. Mint System was operating in 1839. Philadelphia Charlotte - A late die state coin which lots of die cracks Dahlonega New Orleans The San Francisco Mint opened in 1854 after the gold rush began. The Carson City Mint opened in 1870. The Denver Mint was an assay office for many years before it started making coins in 1906. West Point opened in 1984.

I love classic head gold! I've never owned one before, but I would love to. That is my dream coin - but the premiums even over price guides really drive me up a wall. I'm playing patient, and hoping I can get a really fantastic example soon.
