A touch of PMD, I suspect. A small, localized hit on that digit.

I’d have contemplated keeping that 1829 in the OP for my personal collection, but I already have a nice circ which is an earlier date. (I like the earlier ones from the ‘aughts and ‘teens.) And I’m a Type collector when it comes to US coins, rather than a date-and-mint collector.

So this crusty grey VF below will do until I’m ready to upgrade to an AU or MS example.

I did briefly own a PCGS AU55 CAC 1834, and it was nice and lustrous- but it was a tad too white for my tastes in AU Bust halves (and I needed money), so I sold it. That’s the highest grade Bust half I’ve owned. I’ve never yet crossed into Mint State territory with this type.

Really, I’d be just as happy with another Choice AU like that (only pre-1830s, and with some nice toning), rather than try to scrape up the money for an MS example on my limited budget.
