As collectors we always worry or think about grading...are we grading right...overgrading...or undergrading. I think I can be safe and say that for the most part grading goes with the market...if the market is up more people are going to overgrade. Also the fact that a coin is harder to find or rare/low mintage is anything thing that will make it tend to be overgraded. We always wonder if grading Co. are overgrading coins and if so....who is overgrade and when can we tell. Many people hear that ANACS overgrades coins...well the fact is that ANACS and PCGS and NGC all overgrade coins....and they pay dearly for the times they do. That is the reason for BUY THE COIN...NOT THE HOLDER. As a big fan of ANACS I have picked this Co. to show some overgraded coins by them and the reasons they are overgraded...and the reason they got the bad name. This is one of the reasons that IMHO ANACS has a bad name with some collectors. Back years ago when the market was high grading Co. started to overgrade....all of them did it but ANACS was the only one that came out and said that they did and that they were going to be harder. http://cgi.ebay.com/1932-S-WASHINGTON-25C-ANACS-GRADED-VG-8-KEY-DATE_W0QQitemZ8381538794QQcategoryZ39462QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem That is a coin that was graded along time ago from ANACS and I can see why they got a bad name. That coin IMHO is overgraded...its a G6 at best--and its overpriced too. Now as everyone knows I like ANACS and use them (in fact some thing I overdo it when I talk about ANACS!)....but my point for this whole post (don't know if this point is clear or if I'm just typing...) is that even the grading Co. we like..do mess up and we should watch for this and that is a reason for learning how to grade--to tell you the truth...if that coin was priced right I would be bidding. As I said before....learn how to grade and by the coin NOT the holder. I could have picked any other Grading Co. but I thought ANACS was fitting since most of the members (along with me) like ANACS the best. Here is a coin graded by ANACS that I own...its graded F15....but I don't think its any better than VG10. The truth is that most of the time key date coins are overgrade...by anyone...collectors/dealers/graders at TPG's. So you may be asking....isn't Speedy just talking out of his head...what does this mean...why post all of this when we know this. Well....#1....yes I am talking out of my head  most people do!....but I think overgrading is a topic that is talked about alot. #2...it means that even though we like them the best they do mess up...and we might as well admit it! #3...I don't think a topic can be talked about too much....I still learn new things on this forum everyday...about cleaning...about coins....and about the members on here that I've grown to know and call family! So may I suggest that if ya'll have a topic that you think may be good but well...its just talked about too much...go ahead and post it!...I'll read it if no one else will! Sorry this post is long!
