By the way, I left a message for the moderator of this forum a few days ago, to change the name I use. I guess he's to busy to do that at this time. I tried.

Yea, but one of the forum members lectured me on using my name. He took the time to Google it and told me things (they were about 3 years out of date) about myself and gave me the name and where to go to change my forum name. I believe the moderator name was Robert? I look forward to using the new name. You'll know it's me by the name I choose.

I know this thread is about 2017, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the new 1 oz. Platinum Coin the Mint issued today. A coin company sent me an e-mail and said , because the household limit was 1 they were contacting customers of theirs and offering to give them $100 over the mint cost and pay postage and insurance to mail it to them. It went off 12:00 PM ET and I got the e-mail at 11:45 am so I went to the website and ordered it at 12:00. It sold out when I went back to see how it was doing about 2 hours later.

If this coin sold out so fast, with a 1 coin limit, maybe I ought to just keep it and see what happens in the aftermarket. Anybody know what the info is on this coin?

Smart move. Coin collectors don't need to broadcast on the Internet that they are coin collectors. Too many bad guys out there.

I've seen rudeness happen sometimes, but what can you do? I don't think it's anonymity though. A good person won't stop being good just because they can hide away - at least some of them I think. I prefer to remain anonymous but I still strive to be moral. I didn't know there was an ignore option on this sight. I usually just literally ignore a rude person and let some incidents blow over. I am hopeful you will find coin talk more appealing as time goes on.

Life is rude. We all have to deal with it.

I was at the Denver mint today and the guide said that cents cost 1.4 cents each to make and the nickel almost double the face value. The nickels are the real cost drains. But, he added, the mint more than makes up for these losses with all of the other denominations. Quarters cost about 7 cents each and they make an absolute killer profit on those. I believe he said that the mint made about $500 million profit last year overall, and added that they were not concerned about the higher cost of producing the cent or the nickel.

Look what the mint made on the Winged Cap Liberty (Mercury) gold coin issued this year. I'm going to ignore production costs, they exist for every coin made. The Mint charged $210 dollars for a 1/10 ounce gold coin. Gold was at approximately $1250 and ounce when they came out or melt for 1/10th was $125. That's $85 over melt, and they made 125,000 x $85= $10,625,000. Even subtracting production costs, that a pretty good profit. that's why the Mint is the only government agency that turns over millions of dollars to the Treasury every year. They are the only department of government that makes a profit.

Life is rude. We all have to deal with it. Yes we do, but we don't have to add to it.

Thanks for the info on the new Platnimum coin- 10,000 mintage= worth saving.

Any news on U.S. Mint offering(s)?

It'd be great if they did something special with the half-dollar -- like the 2009 Lincoln cent set. But I haven't heard anything, so I'm guessing it's way beyond too late.

I'd like a half-dollar-sized Kennedy gold high-relief coin with an all-new design. But that's probably hoping for too much.
