They kind of do. This half is lighter over where the tape would have been. There's no apparent tape residue though, so it must not have been scotch tape.
Funny you mention the tape. This is one in the batch that had quarters in it. Obvious signs of tape. Apparently common back then. I pulled all the coins out of this one and put them in capsules until I can get time to check them and decide what to do with them.
They do have a little tape residue. Any suggestions on the residue? Almost looks cleaner where the tape was across the coin.
Yeah, the tape would've protected the coin from the elements (air, plus sulfur compounds from the album's paper). You can remove the residue by soaking in acetone, but the lighter stripe will remain. The only way to get rid of that stripe would be to dip the coin and remove the toning from the areas that weren't protected, and that would leave the whole coin a uniform ghastly white. Don't do that.
Here’s the rest of the folders. All in various states of being filled. I don’t collect the Sacagawea or presidential dollars, so not sure what I will do with them. The pre-1965 folders I will add to and try to complete with some of my coins. All the penny folders except the Indian head folder are done. I’m working on one of those in a danso album so I’ll probably combine those two.
That's a lot! Hey, the two undated "Lincoln Wheat Cents" albums have Lincoln Memorial cents as the cover image. Rare error albums?
Thanks. I don’t think I’ll dip them. I like the look of coins that show a history to them. I guess the tape lines will stay. I don’t want to remove any toning.
I just noticed one of the penny folders had a misprint and apparently my granddad or uncle corrected the 1956-S to a 1956-D.
It's funny that they called them "Morgan" dimes. I think that carried over from the earlier coin boards but I can't recall why they called them Morgans. Show us what's in the Barber dime album.
Here's my results from cleaning tape residue from a peace dollar with acetone: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/cleaning-tape-residue.404593/#post-24495043
Nah, I was just making a joke off the fact that they botched the cover art. And it's interesting to see that they do have dates inside, but not on the cover...?
Huh, never seen one of those before. I thought for a moment that it was like a couple of dime albums I've seen, where they went ahead and added slots for the (expected) 1965-D. The albums were printed and sold in advance, well before the 1965-1967 unpleasantness.
@KBBPLL Sorry took a while for me to get back to it. Here’s the Barber Dime Album. About half way there.
That was nice of them to leave the 1894-S as a punch out. No gaping hole that way. Seems like these were all pulled from circulation? Imagine when you could get a pre-1900 Barber dime in change.
