Congrats, @Athelred! I agree that Nero is an excellent choice for someone who wants only one (or a few) Roman Imperial coins. Opinions may differ, but I think Nero issued some of the most artistic coins of the first century (Imperials; the Provincials generally aren't as pretty). I have several inarguably ugly Alexandrians of Nero but this is my sole Imperial. It's a doozy though Nero struck in Rome, CE 63 Orichalcum sestertius, 34 mm, 26.7 gm Obv: NERO CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P IMP PP; laureate head right, wearing aegis Rev: ANNONA AVGVSTI CERES; Ceres, veiled and draped, seated left, holding corn ears and torch, her feet on stool, facing Annona standing right, holding cornucopia; between them, modius on garlanded altar; in background, stern of ship Ref: RIC 98. I can easily forgive the 'roughness' on that wonderful example!! I'd LOVE to own it!! And @TIF's beauty is just mesmerizing!! Need I say I'd Love to own it as well
Ok, one last one sestertius, and also my favorite. Nowhere near as nice as TIF's super Annona Ceres sestertius. It is again a bit rough, but sporting plenty of detail and nice colour. I just love these architectural types.
