I just ran across this product on eBay and thought it was interesting--especially for novice collectors. Someone has put together type sheets for common Roman coin series, such as Constantine's Sol Invictus coins, or Fel Temps, etc. I suppose you affix the coin flip to the sheet, or maybe you overlay a clear flip binder sheet in such a way that the coins match up to the squares?

One of the intimidating factors facing the beginning collector is how to start given the mind-numbing varieties of ancients. The creator of these sheets, for example, refers to the Sun god on Constantine's coins as "SOLI INVICTUS" rather than "SOL INVICTUS," misunderstanding that soli is the dative form of the name. And the creator describes the "barbarian and hut centenionalis" as a Roman emperor leading a barbarian from a burning hut.
Some are content to collect whatever from wherever. Those wanting a little more focus could use these sheets to pursue inexpensive "mini-sets" pretty quickly. I myself like seeing all the types or mints in one place. I have just reviewed the copy of a few of these sheets, and there are a few idiosyncrasies. I've pretty much read everything there is to read on this type, and I've never seen the hut described as "burning." But perhaps these are quibbles. I do like the idea, and I think it can be a service to those looking for a way to focus their collecting. BTW, I have no connection to or even idea of who is behind this product. It might even be someone here on CoinTalk.
