The spots on the neck do not show up in these pics as they did. But the dark color in the recesses confirms the coin has been dipped and it appears to have reduced luster. To be honest, I still don't feel good about the coin. But I would need to see it in hand to be any more definitive.

Yes, the coin has 64 details. But that coin has been worked on. It's just a question of how much work was done on it to decide if it is body-bag material or not.

Bruce, did you have plastic over it in those photos?

Yes, It came in the mylar flip stapled in one spot so it would be obvious if it was opened. I bought this coin from kero8653,Kevin Gabert, PO Bx32106 Olivette MO,63132. Ebay item # 350060469381 It cost me $114.50 S & H included. Plus $2.60 mandatory insurance.

His return policy is as stated: "All Items are shipped for your 7 day approval. Refund of purchase price (less S&H) are given with no questions or hassles if you are not satisfied for any reason whatsoever. We do ask that single coins be returned in the original unopened sealed flip for identity purposes

I'll get to the coin in hand after a closer look at the 35 area and some other metal work to the right if the designers initials.

Is that the market price for 1935 Peace Dollar? I own a few because nice examples are aesthetically pleasing, but I never hunted down a specific year or date. On the face of it it seems steep.

I asked about the plastic because I thought you were trying to con us about the coins luster.

I'll have to go look at the price of that coin. Now the real question is, how much do you like it?

Let me fill in some gaps here. The coin has definitely been worked on. The dark area around the 35 in the date showed up to be an attempt to repair something there. I took some pictures with a QX5 that might clear up some questions. Below and to the 8 O'clock area of the designer initials is a putty-like patch of metal that looks to be lifting up. The 3 and the 5 looks like they were placed there both look doubled when looking north at the underside of the 3 and the straight top piece of the 5,also looking north.

So, here are some QX5 10x photos: 60x to follow:

OK I see slabbed 63's going for about $85 and 64's going for 166 to a little over 2000. This is likely a low grade 64 or a 63, but it is unslabbed. If you like this coin, you did OK, but IMO, it could have been a bit better.

These are the 60x photos: You'll notice in the 10x shotw there is a dent in the edge where it meets TRVST. That is where the edgeing looks altered and joined back into the edge sequences.

Ruben, You saw the original photos from the auction as did I. I thought the coin looked quite all right if the photos were untouched, as it was claimed It seems that with almost every quality coin pictured on Ebay you're going to get a photoshopped coin that can't stand the "Coin In Hand" test.

As for what has happened to this 1935 Peace dollar, I'll leave that uo to the more experienced.

I hate ebay. I really collect for the fun of it and to buy on ebay you need to do it almost full time and have hundreds of prices and conditions encyclopediacly memorized and at your disposal, not to mention a keep eye for fraud.

Some guys get in there and rake up the bucks because they find the deals, but at my billing rate, it doesn't pay and I DON'T WANT COIN COLLECTING TO BECOME MY JOB. I already have a job, even two of them.

Doug, you were right on with this coin too. You're getting real good at shooting down almost all my Peace dollars I reel in then have to throw back. But, hey! that's what's so good about this forum. Equal opportunity to get your goods graded and/or trashed. I love it. :thumb:

Just as long as you realize Bruce that it is not my intention to shoot down anybody's coin for any reason. I just call 'em as I see 'em.

Thank you, Doug. That's all I'll ever ask for. Your knowledge.
