Some of you will recognize me as the person that has been harping on the TPGs for years about a meaningful guaranty of authenticity to protect collectors and keep the TPGs ever vigilant. The major TPG responded positively after receiving some pressure from major dealers (at my prompting), but that doesn't help me sleep a whole lot better. </p><p> </p><p>Well, I have adjusted my buying to focus on slabbed coins with provenience that can be traced back for decades to further "protect" against fakes. As an example, a recent purchase was this coin:</p><p> </p><p> <a href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566053.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566053.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" rel="nofollow"></a></p><p><a href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566053.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566053.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566053.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&scale=size%5B450x2000%5D,options%5Blimit%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a> </p><p> <a href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566073.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566073.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" rel="nofollow"></a></p><p><a href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566073.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://javascript%3cb%3e%3c/b%3E:popUpBigPic%28&quot;/common/view_image_only.php?img=&quot;%20+%20encodeURIComponent%28&quot;http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566073.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink&quot;%29%29;" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://images.ha.com/lf?source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/newnames/300/4/5/6/6/4566073.jpg%5D,continueonerror%5Btrue%5D&scale=size%5B450x2000%5D,options%5Blimit%5D&source=url%5Bfile:images/inetpub/webuse/no_image_available.gif%5D,if%5B%28%27global.source.error%27%29%5D&sink" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></a> </p><p> <u></u></p><p><u>It is the Eliasberg/Clapp piece that can be traced back to the turn of the century (1900s), with the following pedigree "</u><i>Ex</i>:<i> Charles Morris Collection (S.H. and H.
