This coin has very attractive peripheral toning, I like how there is some color in the Indian's war bonnet. It was tough to catch the blues in the darker toning at the margins, since stronger light washed out the highlights even more. If you like, guess the assigned grade. I'll post the grade Sunday night.
It looks attractive. I'd like to see the toning better lit to really show this coin off. I'm going to guess 65 - there are some hits in central areas, and the luster doesn't look strong enough for a 66 (from what I'm seeing in the pictures). Congrats on the pickup!
I bet that coin looks amazing in hand it's one you can just tell the pictures aren't doing it justice. I'll guess 66
Wut? I totally missed that! Can you show us alternate pictures that show the wear? I'm not seeing it in your original pics.
Kind of a stretch for an AU coin to snooker many of us into thinking it was worthy of a '65/'66 designation..........Good curve ball? You should be in the 'majors'..............
In defense of us all though, none of the photogs are 'expandable'...........still, I ain't been caught way off base like that in quite a spell........
I'm not sure I can show the wear. But, if I tilt it under the light, I can see gray metal on the Indian's hands, the bow and the left (facing thigh/knee). on the rev, the ox's hip, ribs and ambulatory settler. The coin overall shows very little luster, but does not have the washed out look of an overdipped coin. That being said, I think it was probably dipped before being put in an album resulting in the toning. It is actually quite nice looking in hand.
I'm sorry the photos can't be enlarged. I sized them at about 600 pixels in Paintshop, if you like I can resize them larger and upload them. other than setting the size and "sharpen" I did not alter the images at all. Just my standard lighting with 2 cfl's in reflectors close to the lens axis.
