Thanks all, long ways to go to complete the 2 Taler series. So many varieties and mints. This one is quite unique and a type you really do not see often.
Stunning!! I could look a Taler's for hours! Fascinating coinage! I would love to be able to collect those but for right now I will simply admire them. I've looked up other Taler's on ebay, very nice!
Zohar, That piece is simply awesome. I have always been a huge fan of those "Big Boys" I have seen several of the 2 Thalers over the years and always have been impressed by their size. Great piece!!
Yep that is a great coin. You should be done collecting after that. Just stop collecting as that's it!! Sheez What is the ones your missing if this is not it?
Zohar, it's an awesome looking coin, but perhaps you should consider getting it down to a more manageable size. These people can help. :high5:
I recall a few years ago Heritage or Goldberg had a World auction and there were literally two or three DOZEN Hogmouth talers and double talers and some were as nice as yours Zohar. Would you like the auction catalog if I can locate it?
Way to keep it 1950 style Amazing piece yet again , your starting to accumulate quite the pieces. I alwayse loved the depiction of Leopold on coinage he is quite the good looking man and on a piece of this magnitude his features are quite pronounced thanks for posting it ..
hiho - thanks for the offer. Leopold Talers are probably the most common as the guy ruled for a longer period of time and loves looking at himself when paying the bills Neverthless, the 65mm version here is extremely rare. Not as available.
So, was wondering if it was more or less than a thousand for something like that. Perhaps right at a thousand? Terrific coin in great condition in any case. Not the sort of thing you see in pocket change often.
Unfortunately more than a thousand... but it is because you do not see these medallic talers often. Lots of silver
Beautiful coin; ugly emperor. I would think the surfaces would bring a premium. You say this is rare in any grade. I'd be surprised if they exist in worn grades. I wouldn't think they circulated much. What do you know about the reasons for issue and place in the economy of the day?
Do you have a museum quality coin like yours graded and preserved or is there a better process for true antiquities ?
