Curtis, That 1st ADVENTVS coin is a jewel ! That's what I'd call "Fleur de Coin". I can understand why you'd grab the 2nd coin too .
J.T. Parker, After cracking open a Double India Pale Ale with an alcohol content of 8.2% I've decided to keep both coins or trade the 1st one for a coin of the same type with a different officina mark .
Hi Al, Gotta love it...Both the 8.2% Pale Ale & Coin collecting..HOORAY! ( I'm usually a scotch drinker but recently have been enjoying Marlin Brando's 'go-to' drink of choice, Campari & O.J.) I figure the extra vitamin C can't hurt. Glad you were able to keep both coins. Enjoy, J.T.
Both coins are very nice examples. Clearly two engravers were involved. The portrait on the first coin is less skillfully done, same for the eagle on the reverse. As for the NGC numbering system, I find it at times just as capricious as the MS rating system used for modern coins. It is an attempt to render a number on a subjective factor, and this is especially true for ancients and hammered coinage. It pretty much reduces collecting to collecting by numbers, which is I think is detrimental to the hobby. I guess that I'm a bit old fashion.
I like both OP coins. I suppose an argument could be made why the 2nd one is better because of the sharper portrait. However, you got them both for reasonable prices. So I would be happy.
