Those are some beautiful coins, virtually all of very good quality and grade. I hope you didn't break the bank, but if you did, that's OK too!

    Nathan401 Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Thanks!! I got the deal of a lifetime. So my Wife works on The Preservation Commission with an older gentleman, whose brother is an Egyptologist. Over the years he put together an excellent collection. He has no one to leave them to, and would rather sell them to me than a dealer. He wants what he paid, and not a penny more.

Here is the JC, from North Africa. Shame about the scratches/graffiti in front of Venus, but I love the coin. It was purchased from Colony Coins in Massachusetts many years ago, and now by me! 7E4739CF-9875-45A9-82CA-132F2DFDE37F.jpeg A71554B8-46CD-4363-81C0-BC0B53AA3D7C.jpeg AD3B2565-7352-4074-B66B-A1C556CE3B48.jpeg BED8E3FA-7B87-49BB-9D40-A1D6ED822E25.jpeg

My favorite of the 3 bronze Tets. Using the link from TIF, I found a match. Listed as Tyche on the reverse and corrected by TIF to Homonoia. The patina is fantastic, great portrait, and awesome coin! 5D739BCA-ED5F-4EEF-941F-C5A357BEA3D0.jpeg 792AF62C-BA2F-498F-8B2C-92347A5B4EAE.jpeg Gallienus 253-268AD

Obv: Laureate m, draped and cuirassed bust right.
Rev: Homonoia Seated left, holding double cornucopia and raising right hand. Palm frond to right.

I had help and encouragement from TIF, and I think they’re all identified now. I’ll add them as I can.

Awesome, @Nathan401! I really like this one (and the other Alex tets) when you posted them! Here is a Gallienus tet I just got last week and have been waiting to share it when the opportunity arose, and this is a great opportunity to be posted alongside another great example! Congrats on a great coin!!

There is a sticker on the bottom of the container it was in that says it was bought in a lot from Superior Coins 6/98.

Looks like Ira & Larry Goldberg worked at Superior Stamp & Coin Company 1994-1998... Not sure if that is where "Superior Coins" is referring to and if anyone has a network connecting to them and if they have access to any records for sales or auctions in '98?

Edit: Actually looks like Superior S & C Co. was started by the Goldberg's grandfather.

Thank you for the good photos which show the coins to be quite nice. IMHO the prices in 1998 were high but time has caught them up.

This guy is really dark and glossy and has a great overall look, imo. Again this would have been impossible without TIF, as I was positive I found a match in Emmett 3429 Gordian III. Looks just like him. She gave me the match: 8392D2CF-DFA1-4682-B01B-A0E04D3FA8DA.jpeg 722CDCED-5BDE-437B-A6C1-E9E09693156D.jpeg Egypt, Alexandria. Valerian Tetradrachm

Here is the largest bronze, a hefty 70.1 grams. I wanted one of these big guys since TIF’s octobol post way back. Here’s my Ptolemy III, 0A2DCAA9-733B-4901-8D47-25780DAA41DA.jpeg 11C4A952-D527-4E8D-A2F4-19DF213FFDBB.jpeg

Here is a Ptolemy AR Tetradrachm that I paid the most for (compared to the other silver coins in the lot). This coin has a tag marked
    Ptolemy XII
    S. 7946v
I went on WildWinds and it has 7945 and 7947. It weighs 14.0 grams CBD6F3B0-215C-4661-868C-8150B008E894.jpeg 5C9DC424-14C5-4EE7-96F1-AEB73213BFA9.jpeg

@Nathan401 - Looking through this whole thread .. congratulations to you for the great additions to your collection. Quite amazing. (many examples would be highlights of many collections including my own (obviously!..)).

But I must say that my sincere admiration goes to the last owner ....and a big thank you should go him for his years of stewardship of these fine coins.

This looks to me like a win for you and a win for the seller as they have been moved to a good home where he knows they will be appreciated and in the end he gets his money back - not profit seeking - but he found a place where they will be loved.
I hope you will continue that legacy.

That's how this should all work in a perfect world... but almost never does...

that is the just the impression I have gathered from the posts of many senior collectors ..

Thanks! I’m very grateful to him and have plans to meet up again in the not-too-distant future. I could sit down and just listen to his stories for hours. Once I saw the collection, and understood what he was looking for, I knew this was a chance I shouldn’t miss. Most of these coins are outside of what I would normally be able to afford.
