Ok so I’ve got this 1966 1c specimen that has some features that resemble the FS-101 DDO variety, but something isn’t quite right. The die state seems earlier than the MDS and LDS known examples for the variety. Additionally, and bearing the most import; doesn’t seem like the features are dramatic enough to be true hub doubling, though I’ve encountered the exact same features on numerous other specimens. In any case I was hoping some of you experts out there might have the experience to shed some light on what exactly it is I am seeing on these coins.
Definitely not even close. Only would like to understand what causes this effect I am seeing and what it is called.
Not saying that I see any doubling in your photos. It is very likely that there is a MDO for the year. Which is Master die doubled, This will be seen on every coin the die struck. Therefore NAV. What does surprise me is that the Master listings tab on VV has been removed. @Rick Stachowski
I’ve taken some new photos under more appropriate lighting; and I am starting to lean, in my admitted inexperience, toward the possibility that this is an EDS example of FS-101. I have some obvious doubts of course, but the more I look over it the less I am able to be sure of any cause due to striking. Also there are numerous others with the same features and it seems to progress down the line. The last two photos are of a coin from the same rolls, but many a number after the one in the initial photos.
