http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_florin The Double Florin (4/-)[1] was one of the shortest-lived British coin denominations ever, only being produced during 4 mint years, between 1887 and 1890. The silver coin weighed 22.6 grams (0.80 oz) and was 36 millimetres (1.4 in) in diameter. Looks to be 92.5% silver. Awesome find. Imagine the hands it has been in.
so your saying...when I retire I should may have a conversation with you before I make any decisions on selling...LOL I'm new and looking for a lot of info..Thanks PS Part of my retirement
Wow, nice find. It's a 1889 British shilling, a little smaller diameter than a US quarter. I wonder how it ended up in a roll of I assume quarters?
I know people at the corner store and I buy there change in rolls as people bring it to pay for goods.. every now and then I get something a little strange
I agree, I think it's a shilling, not a double florin. You said it was in a roll of quarters. A double florin would be much bigger.
