Another hole filled in my Whitman’s Type Set. An 1854 with arrows at the date. As with the Liberty Seated Dimes there are a number of varieties in the design. This is Variety 3, No Rays and Arrows At the Date. It was only used from 1854-1855, two short years. Over 12 million were minted.
Your piece has some very interesting die cracks such as the one between the A and R in QUAR as well as between UNITED and STATES. These die cracks are unlisted in Briggs but the mintage for 1854 is so high that Briggs specifies that many unlisted varieties certainly exist.
