Read this short and interesting article about a Latin Dictionary, surely I won't be around when it is finished in 2050 https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/30/arts/latin-dictionary.html Unsure if I can post it here or maybe in Coin Chat?
If they finish by 2050, I'll be 101 (if I'm not dead yet). My Aunt will be 98 this coming year, so I suppose there is a slight chance.
That's interesting. The project is so far underway, that it would be a shame to quit now. I can't help but thinking that cataloging every single usage of every single word is overkill, though. Thankfully, numismatic Latin is rather easy, with formulaic uses of words and phrases. One need only to know a hundred words, for example, to understand the Sulzer catalog. GALLIENVS P F AVG, head of Gallienus with radiate crown. DEO MARTI. Mars stands with helmeted head in four-columned temple. FAVSTINA AVG PII AVG FIL. Head of Faustina Junior. S C, Diana stands, right hand holding arrow, the left hand a bow at her feet. Without inscription.
