Presentation Medal in Silver. Know Kuner was engraver in S.F. Did the Seal of California and other circulation coins. In original case. Wt 34.2 grams. Size 14.34mm x 3.33mm Hand engraved as I don't think was cast. Value?
This medal is neither cast nor engraved (per se); it's struck, just like a coin is struck -- between two dies, under tremendous pressure. Kuner designed and engraved the dies with which this medal was struck. The individual engraving of the recipient's name would not have been done by him; it could've been done by any one of dozens of capable engravers working in CA at that time. As for value . . . I doubt there's much interest in the agricultural connection, but the obverse is appealing. Just on the aesthetics, the silver content, the fact that Kuner designed it and the condition, I'd venture that it would probably sell at auction for somewhere around $150.
