I have a penchant for Mars types and it was a MARS VLTOR denarius of Severus Alexander that brought me to ancients. Here is my first ever ancient:- After a while I became aware that MARS VLTOR came with a different reverse type that whilst listed as common is much less commonly seen than the Mars advancing type. After many years I manage to obtain the following:- Now on to my newest purchase and my jaded looking Mars:- This is the second type but this time as a Sestertius:- Severus Alexander, Ae Sestertius Obv:- IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG, laureate and draped bust Rev:- MARS VLTOR SC, Mars standing left holding spear, shield, with standard resting against his right arm Minted in Rome. Reference:– RIC 638 A lovely looking jade green patination. I know it shows wear but the legends and devices are clear enough. A chance to show your jade green coins or your first ancients.... Martin
