Also I think it very interesting that the Julio-Claudian line of Emperors all descend from Tiberius Claudius Nero, NOT Augustus. Today he is quite an obscure figure but he is the Father of Tiberius, Grandfather of Claudius, Great Grandfather of Gaius (Caligula) and Great Great Grandfather to Nero.

  3. Thank you for the reminder of the history of Tiberius. Been a little while. That is what is nice about this Board. For those of us who are Roman buffs. No doubt the assumption of the "tribute coin" adds an additional price to coins of this reign, true or not. Unfulfilled on my wish list. A line from "The Robe": "Once the Emperors of Rome were noble." Yet, that may be hard to say exactly. Politics 'to this day' appears to be convoluted. Yet, the Republic threw out the 'kings', (then went back to them again), achieved (but not always observed) an evolution in justice not particularly codified until Justinian, which is the foundation of Western Democratic law.

I too, assumed that "Dane" was a male. A regrettable bias, sorry wherever you are.

I agree, the fact that it is a coin that circulated during his life time (especially in his adulthood) probably does add to the interest of his coins to some.
