The obverse much the same as all Irish coins. The Eire on top. The harp. And below 1945-1995. Reverse showing a Dove with ribbon with same dates on as front. And words "Nations United For Peace" The Pound symbol for 1. And the UN logo with a 50 next to it. The coin is a proof coin. Mintage is unknown. But I do know its a valuable coin. Strike type. PROOF. Uncirulated. The 1943 Halfcrown and Florins. The mintage numbers for the 1943 florins and halfcrowns were similar to those for the preceding years. However they were struck and not yet issued before the decision to remove the silver content from the coins was made. A large number of unissued silver florins and halfcrowns dated 1943 were returned to the Royal Mint to be melted down. Only a small number escaped and the 1943 florin is particularly rare. I have a Dominican Rep. 10 centavos from 1942 that is made out of .900 silver. These were minted from 1937 to 1961. I am sure other denominations were silver as well but this is the one I have.
Here's a very small addition: SLOVAKIA (SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA 1939-1945) 10 Ks .500 Silver 1944 20 Ks .500 Silver 1939, 1941 50 Ks .700 Silver 1944
these are Maundy pennies, handed out by the king or queen on Maundy Thursday,to elderly people who have worked for the church, they used to be given to the poor in days of old,the tradition goes back many hundreds of years.the penny for normal use is not silver.
N$10 Diez Nuevos Pesos (1992-1995) Bi-metal - 92.5% Sterling Silver Center with aluminum-bronze ring. Weighs 11.18g while the non-silver version minted after 1995 weigh 10.33g, and leave out the word "Nuevos" as well as the 'N' before the $ denomination on top. I thought I'd add this since there is some confusion between silver and non-silver versions of $10 Diez Pesos in Mexico. It's amazing that a country was still circulating silver coins into the general population 30 years after the US kicked silver out of the standard.
For a while after that, the €10 were Cu-Ni (available at face) or Ag 625 (proof, surcharged). Well, seems that many collectors did not like that, so five years later we are back to silver (Ag 925) at face value. But of course the nominal value (€20) is above the current intrinsic value, so these are not for hoarders and melters. Not really for circulation either though; they are simply collector coins. Thanks for the list! Very helpful with the 1911 Chinese silver dollars I have, and plan to sell. The size, and weight match silver to make mine legit. They are not the dragons. They have leaves on the back, but still really cool. $60 each, if anyone interested!
It looks a lot like the cheat sheet I used in 1976 before I memorized it. Mine was a condensed form that didn't list the obviously silver, coins that were never seen, or low fineness ones.
