Thank You All so much for your kind words and Beautiful coins posted! I'm bumping this thread only because of this. I found out of my grandfathers death from sending him an email about the FREE PCGS quarter (I posted it here). My grandmother then emailed me back about what was going on. Anywho, my Gramps lived here in San Diego, CA. He loved to bike and in his earlier days was an avid hiker. He went ALL over the world to do it (Europe and beyond)... Well, he died before he could get the last email I sent him, which I will share with you here:

    FREE PCGS graded state quarter!!!

hurry up Gramps, click on the link below and sign yourself or grandma (if you already have a set registry) up and they will send you a free coin! I said FREE, so I don't care too much if you like it or not, if you have taught me anything Gramps... FREE is FREE

    - to which I got this reply from my grandmother:

Bill had a bike accident in Tucson and is not doing too well but hanging in there. I was riding behind him when he veered left and fell. His heart stopped and a Dr. in the group did CPR until the Medics arrived. They've kept his body temperature at 90 degrees purposely to stop swelling and make the organs not work so hard. Brain activity is not showing seizures or anything. He's been totally sedated since yesterday. They are probably gonna try to warm him up a little and at the same time, try to ween him off some of the meds to see how his body responds. It's hour by hour right now. Please keep the prayers coming! They are very needed!

    ... I then replied:

Oh my goodness grandma... I am praying and praying. I don't have a phone and its just (edit: my daughter) and I here at at home, (edit: my wife) is out. Please keep me informed and please let me know if there is anything I can do. Jesus is Lord and I know he is with you right now grandma, whisper that in Gramps ear and please tell him I love him. I love you to grandma, and (edit: my wife) should be home in an hour or so, her phone# is (XXX) XXX-XXXX please please please call us if you need ANYTHING and may God be with you!

----- I then prayed and went to sleep, only to have my wife wake me at 6:45am on Tuesday morn to tell me that at 5:40am, my Gramps had indeed, passed. Well, I have zero Family in Arizona (my God-mother,who is not connected to my Gramps) but you get the point... and my Gramps has to my immediate knowledge never gone to AZ for coffee let alone a bike trip (he LOVED Europe... I mean he couldn't resist traveling there at least once or twice per year for the last 15 or 20 years).

The Point: The FREE coin I received from PCGS (which I thought was going to be an ATB quarter, my mistake) was none other than a 2010-D Arizona 'Grand Canyon NP' graded ms65, by my grandfather's favorite TPG PCGS!!!

Arizona was the final place my Gramps got to enjoy life on Earth... I will cherish this coin for the rest of my life :)

Thanks again guys for letting me speak and Thanks to God for letting my Gramps go out in style!
    Erik

BTW: still haven't got the wife's coin: will post it the other thread when she (lol) gets it!

I am so sorry for your loss. RIP to your grandfather. Hopefully he is in a better place where he can safely cycle all he wants.

Edit: That is quite amazing that the coin is from Arizona. That is special.

Sorry to hear it Eric. I know its not gold, but here is the coin I bought last year when my mother passed:

    Postumius.jpg

I saw this just a week or two after she left us. The obverse looks like her, the reverse is a greyhound and she had rescued greyhounds for pets, and the moneyer is Postumius. I thought it was quite eery I would see this coin then, and have never seen the similar coin with the same style obverse since.

Now is the time for sadness, but the rest of your life will be the time to treasure your memories of him. May he rest in peace.

    A beautiful sad story

I'm sure I speak for all here when I thank you for sharing your personal sad story with us, and extend best wishes for a future with fond remembrances.

This old man was especially saddened and brought to tears by your story, as my most beloved Grand-daughter died in a tragic accident as a passenger on the night of her college graduation. The consolation, like your Grand-father, is that she also was with her best female friend doing what they enjoyed.

I'm so happy to hear that you still have your Grandmother, and like I, hope you appreciate every day that we have with our beloved ones who give us meaning in life.
