Where did you buy it GD (just curious how these pattern coins were distributed) ... Did you need to know somebody high up?
one of my favorite 2000 pattern designs... $400 bucks, though... http://cgi.ebay.com/2000-1-ICG-MS-6...40?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5190367e3c
They were not made by the US Mint, they were made by The Gallery Mint and were sold by them (The reverse design actually was one of the finalists for the reverse of the Sac dollar.) My specimen, which has a slightly different obverse, cost me $150. The profile of Liberty on the obverse was created with a punch but the hair is hand engraved.
Preference ' Interesting sentiments. I am amazed at the variety of reactions. That's why I signed up here, but sometimes it sounds like a couple of rednecks arguing over Chevy's and Ford's, it just boils down to preference. Here's mine. The patterns are nice to look at, a modern, clean, sharp rendition of an old design, but already been done. I'm glad they weren't chosen, time to move on. The Sac fits the times well in many ways, plus I have a crush on her. The cap looks like a contraception device, completely irrelevant and out of place, who would think of putting a hat on a stick these days? I could go for the flowing, wind-blown hair, tho'. I try to appreciate the process and the symbology, while understanding that every product is the result of a series of compromises and only relatively perfect from the producers' perspective. Then there's my filter: I am cheap and usually satisfied with what I can find in circulation, if they make it I'll find it at face.
I personally am not a fan of that particular design.... The obverse is do-able... now the eagle that looks like it was an extra in the last transformers movie... BLECH!!
The 1977 design liberty would make a great $2 coin for when they eliminate the $1 paper bill ... (ooops - did I say that outloud?)
I have no idea, that was 8 or 9 years ago. When I said I looked it up, I meant I looked up in my own records to see what I had paid for it.
