A golden start to 2021

    I don’t want to argue wether these coins are fake or not, but those two coins don’t look like they come from the same die. There seems to be subtle differences between them, for example in the folds of the clothes of Mary hanging from her arm, and the angle of the two top stems inside the halo of Jesus.

    P.O.M., The dies that struck the fake Sear 1820 coins have gotten a lot of mileage & have been touched-up a number of times, that's why you can spot minute differences from coin to coin. Pictured below is the 1st fake Sear 1819 coin I bought many years ago. It's a pretty good fake too, however, it was underweight & looks like the fake pictured in David Sear's book BYZANTINE COINS and Their Values, pictured on page 517, F86. The dies that struck this fake have gotten a lot mileage too, being touched-up many times & paired with different fake dies.
