This came from a local dealer about 30 years ago. He didn't like the coin and gave it to me for $20. I loved the clash and thought it was about AU-50. It came back from PCGS as an MS-62.

    Great clash.

What is the red under the reverse bow?

A beautiful coin and a great clash! And what a deal. Makes you wish your dealer had more coins that he didn’t like.

I do think this is a cool series and certainly some beautiful examples shown thus far. Here's the one specimen I have in my type set.

Part of my father's collection had the silver three cent piece, 1862. There were also three nickel 3 cent pieces, an 1865, 1868, and 1874. I have put them all in a 2x2 to protect them. I doubt they aren't worth having them graded.
This is the first time I saw a reference to the silver 3 cent. Thanks, for making me look at mine.

What's not to like about that coin @ldhair ? Great coin, great condition, great price.

No silver in this old girl, but you can't hate the mintage numbers . . . . .

    1880 Three Cent Nickel - 24,995 minted.

And for those who like die clashes, this old girl with only 41,083 minted has some nice ones . . . . .
