I understand that you are posting this story to highlight the seller's good deed in following through with the deal even in light of their mistake, but when I read your story, I had to do a doubletake when you said you made the seller stick to the deal. I give big huge kudos to that seller for being professional about the whole transaction, that does say a lot for them. But I don't understand why you didn't do the same thing?

I buy a lot on Ebay and, had the seller simply not set a reserve and the coin sold for a really low price, that would be on the seller and I would expect them to go through with the deal (I once actually had a seller refuse to sell me a coin for this very reason). However, when the seller immediately notified you that they made a mistake, I would have understood and let them out of the deal, as I thought you were going to say you did.

As a bidder, haven't you ever entered an extra digit by accident when you placed a bid as you mentioned in your scenario? I have, and I immediately notified the seller that I made a typo, and they quickly cancelled my bid for me. Mistakes do happen, and particularly when they are caught quickly, I feel we all (both buyer and seller) should do the right thing, instead of trying to get a great deal. Because if it hasn't happened already, the shoe WILL be on the other foot and you will be grateful that the other side doesn't take advantage of your mistake.
