Awesome OP-winner, V70 ... Ummm, has anybody ever seen this baby before? => Dom, The Bomb!! yah, yah ... I'll buy another example soon enough (hey, no judging!!)
Since I just won two denarii of Domitian as Caesar from a Forum as seller auction, I will post them here. They appealed to me due to cost and the cool reverses despite the obvious wear....and the portraits are kinda cool too The first was stuck in 79 AD, the year Vesuvius erupted, with the Young Prince and clasped hands reverse. The second a few years later (80-81 AD) and has the flaming/garlanded altar reverse with the obverse inscription proclaiming Domitian as DIVI F(ILIVS)--the son of the divine...... being the son of a god didn't quite work out as well as he must have thought
Congratulations! Both are very respectable examples. Your COS VII 'clasped hands' is a bit rarer than the corresponding COS VI one struck under Vespasian. Good job.
lovely new coin V70, glad it finally made it! i've purchased several coins from european vcoins dealers. only a few didn't make it and were refunded (i don't shop with those cats anymore), the ones that did make it haven't taken longer than 3 weeks. i've had some hit my door from europe faster than from the west coast! ...i'll refrain from showing my same ol' domitian yet again.
Better late than never, given some of the posts we've seen around here lately. Congrats on the new coin!
