I haven't bought a $50+coin in almost 4 months, mostly because I'm broke lol. This coin was a Christmas present for $300 essentially my B-day and Christmas money, the old lady wasn't enthusiastic about it.The most I had ever spent on a coin since I bought my 1853 quarter eagle(first gold coin ever) 3 years ago for $280. May was no different.

    First, I cherried a 1809 102 XXX marked as a plain edge.

Picked up an 1825 from the same seller as the 1810 from April.

Then I won 2 from Heritage both slightly below my max bids.

It‘s the O-102a, which usually does have a plain edge, right? Can you clearly see the XXX edge through the holder?

    The 1811 is my favorite.
I'm fond of die cracks, particularly extensive ones.

Yes, it's the 102A that normally is the plain edge, although a few early 102As (die crack on reverse exists but very weak). On mine even though the holder covers the edge I know it will have the experimental XXX edge simply based on strike order.

I remember the O-110 came first, followed by the O-102 and then O-102A. Are you saying early O-102a’s with weak die cracks will likely have the XXX edge and the later 102a’s won’t? I am asking as I own an O-102a which is in an old ANACS soap box holder - there’s no way to look at the edge without cracking it out.

Not likely, but possible. There are a few XXX edges after the crack first appears, but they're rare.
