I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the answer to the contest Edit: nevermind. I'm blaming poor eyesite.
The answer is that one of the coins (#9) was issued by Philip II and therefore is not a roach, i.e. not issued by Gordian. John
Ok, I'm home finally! I never get home until this time so this is when most of my post are (sorry) I have school then year round sports and sometimes I'm just so beat up and tired I can't do much, I play football then wrestling then rugby, some of the most contact sports there are so sorry for the delay here are my reasons for picking #12, my first ancient coin was a campgate type reverse so that being my first ever seen example I am naturally drawn to archetectual type defense's nd this is a great example of a type I don't have, it's my first Tetrastyle temple! I was trying to attribute it for practice and in my doing so about 25ish minutes in I ran across this thread- https://www.cointalk.com/threads/gordian-iii-ae30-nikopolis-tetrastyle-temple.270189/ It is kind of a cheat cheat but... also this coin and the one I'm receiving are identical are they the same coin? If so awesome! It adds even more centiment going through multiple CT members! This coin is certainly a hunk of metal making it my largest coin by a long shot and it exhibits the most natural look of a circulated ancient coin! Again @Theodosius thank you so much for this contest and everything you have done for us! This has been a great learning experience! PM incoming. Thanks, Jacob
You are correct, that thread is about your exact coin. I got this coin from awesome coin finder John Anthony. This just shows that we as collectors are only temporary keepers of these ancient coins. It is our responsibility to preserve them carefully and see they get passed on to new collectors.
Seems I missed the boat on the contest aspect of this thread, but will make the observation that perhaps direct contact with wheat bread will cause some interesting toning later. You might be onto something, if that toning proves attractive. (Just Google "Taco Bell Napkin Toning". You could start the next trend with "Turkey Sammich Toning", who knows?)
I just caught this thread and thought it the coolest 'give-a-way' contest yet--- a lot of fun, interesting and over flowing with individual generosity!
My prize has arrived! Along with three other very kind gifts! They are so nice Theodosius thank you so much for your generosity and kindness! I get to attribute 3 coins too! Also you have sent me my first Greek coin! Here they are and they are quite beautiful! Thank you so much, they are so amazing! Also i took a picture of the side of the one because it is so thick and amazing. I can't wait to start attributing! If I have a snow day tomorrow (which is possible but unlikely) I will start! Thanks, Jacob
Thank you! I kept the stamps too because I think their neat Also thank you for the picture compliment! I do my best but I only have one lamp so their only ok, but it does better because of the light reflection off of the whiteboard. Thank you so much! And unfortunately no snow even know their is 8 inches of snow... but I cant wait to dig into those coins! Thanks, Jacob
My wife will be excited that you liked her stamps. She is something of a stamp hoarder. She will buy 5 sheets of anything new and only slowly use them up.
I received a very promising looking envelope in the mail today from Mr. Theodosius. I am going to resist the (strong) urge to open it now and save it until tonight. My sincere thanks to Theodosius!
Not at all. Your contests inspired me to do this. Notice I stole much of the contest process from your threads.
LordM your contest are amazing you always give away what you can and constantly gift people items that they love, you also have so many contest! Never are they put to shame at all, you do it just to be kind and for the fun of it! Also Theo thank you again for the contest, the coins are amazing, I'll start attributing whenever I get time but I'm kind of stocked right now because of school-wrestling-homework and tonight I had a band concert which went well.
