Because why not? Our coins are a near infinite resource of imagery to draw inspiration from!

On a whim today I decided to try to recreate a long time favourite in my collection. I've always thought this stater of Cilicia, Tarsos was a bit creepy looking. Although it's accepted that the obverse is an image of Athena wearing a triple crested helmet, every time I show my well worn example to a non collector they say MEDUSA!!

This was very small pumpkin and the carving is maybe 4" across. Next time I'll get some real carving tools for the fine detail and start with a larger canvas but overall I'm pleased with the results :)

    And of course the original

Have you ever been inspired to recreate numismatic art?
I would love to see it!
