CAC POWER: The value of the CAC designation -- regardless of whether you like it or hate it -- can't be denied from these prices. Note how a lower-graded Saint jumps up in price to eclipse a similar or even "half-point" higher Saint:
    • A 1927 MS65+ sold for $3,375 (w/bp).
    • A 1927 MS65 sold for $2,925.
    • A 1927 NGC MS65 CAC sold for $3,724
    • A 1925 NGC MS66+ sold for $7,200.
    • A 1925 MS66 CAC for for $8,269.
    • A 1924 NGC MS67 for $11,812
While some of the coins were in NGC slabs (albeit older ones that might be more conservatively graded), note that the CAC designation seems to drive the price differential, especially when there's a big price jump to the next grade. The 1927 MS65 NGC CAC sells for a nice premium to the MS65+ (PCGS).

    Seems about right.

There's another for sale on GC.... NGC MS65 Wire Rim....asking $45,000...no bidders yet, 11 days left.

Could it be DLRC selling on the GC platform?

Since I work for DLRC, I can tell you that would be an absolute NO. Never. Our weekly auctions are breaking records as well. You should take a look!

I've bought a few coins from DLRC, lower-priced. You have some nice stuff and when I'm back to working FT I hope to grab a few.

I didn't have a solid background in coins when I started. I'm not sure what it was, but I found a friend that had a small shop in a city about 25 miles from my home. I was driving blind when I went to his shop. He educated me on gold coins, as much as he could, but I did buy some coins. I had read about the 1907 High Relief Gold coin, but that was quite a distance from the retirement pay I get from the state. Anyway, I did get some nice gold coins from him. A few months later, he called me and told me he had some gold coins that I might like. When I saw the MMIX Ultra High Relief Gold Coin, I was sold for about $1,500, however, it had been graded as an MS68. Several people have told me that I should sell it, but they didn't think I would get my money back. I'm not sure what it's worth now, but it's worth a great deal to me. I do have a passion for the American Liberty High Relief Gold coins now. I got the 2017, missing the beautiful 2015, and then I got the 2019 and the 2021. The 2021 is one of the best of the lot for me that is. I love that horse. Anyone have an idea of the 2023 American Liberty will be?

It seems that at least the asking prices for the 1907 High Relief $20 gold are heading up again.

Percentage-wise, not as much as regular Saints when gold had the recent run-up. But now you are seeing prices move, as the Details coin showed.

I'm looking for an AU-58....saw lots of them 2+ years ago selling for just under or over $10,000....I think the price now is closer to $12,000 but I'm gonna scan HA and GC to check.

AU-58 is almost an unusual grade for this piece which often trades in the Mint State grades. I'm sure that something will show up at a major show.

I experienced the same thing when I got series about finding a 1796 No Stars quarter eagle. A year or so before I started looking, several pieces that would have worked for me were offered at the major shows. When I started looking, the market had dried up completely.

Finally one showed up at a Baltimore show that was so grossly over graded that it was joke. Dealers were talking about it at the show. It had a straight grade, but fell below that and was damaged to boot. I finally found one in a major auction.

A bit less activity ending the past Sunday....looks like MS-66 commons (1924's, 1908 NMs) still going for about $3,500 (w/BP), give or take 3-5% if condition warrants.

I think that coin is what a MS-70 should look like. That’s why I stink at grading. Now I can see the bottom of the torch straps don’t confuse the flowing dress. Way to close for me.

Not sure which coin that is....the highest-graded was NOT considered the best by a CoinWeek analyst. It was the Bloomfield piece.

I may have posted a link to that article somewhere....I also may have a PDF if anybody wants to read it.

Could be the photos, that's why we need to know which coin it is so we can see a hi-res scan.
