Just ran across this thread. What is the best way to add a nice for grade (MS63-65 PCGS CAC) High Relief for someone who does not live in or near a large city?

Ebay bidding? In person at a major show? Something else?

I'd say Great Collections with HA right behind.

Some more HR's end tonight...check them out.

I've never bought a high-end coin on Ebay, I would certainly want protections with a solid return policy.

Major shows are great to see lots of stuff in-person....but who knows how long before they re-start ? Even if they do, how long before all dealers show up ? So lucky and fortunate I went to FUN 2020 earlier this year, may be a while before another "normal" big show (even the local shows near me have been on hold).

Finally, veteran coin dealers here and on other sites will advertise direct sales from time-to-time....never done it, but can be win-win if both save money on listing and commission fees.

1907 High Relief Update: A "Proof" MS65 Wire Edge went for $41,550 w/out bp. and had 14 bidders. Another NGC MS65 High Relief went for $26,055 with 4 bidders.

A coin from the "Catskill Collection" (whatever that is/was) rated MS64 CAC Wire Edge went for $22,000 with 31 bidders.

I believe that price is more than "FAIR", as I paid slightly more than that for my "undergraded" MS63, some years ago.

I love that coin when it's in virtually "flawless" condition!

    IMO NOT eBay.
I don't trust their buyer protection.

"In person at a major show?"
Certainly a good method IF the coin is slabbed by NGC or PCGS.
And "major" is the key term.

    "Something else?"
I had developed an excellent trusting relationship with a major dealer over 5+ years.
He did the shopping for me and I bought the coin through him.
Yes, he charged me a bit more than he paid for it but I got what I wanted.
BTW my coin is only an AU-50 but it cost me only about $11,500.
And I am satisfied with that grade.[IMG]

Nice coin. Big blank spot in my NGC registry set.

1923-D's @ Great Collections: 4 coins went off tonight:

    I purchased a 1923-D @ FUN earlier in the year for $3,500.
Tried to whittle it down a bit, but no luck. As I recall, M66 CAC's and/or MS66+'s were both closer to $5,000 because an MS67 showed a big jump in price to just under $12,000.

While I have never bought a coin that expensive from Ebay (in fact, I never have bought one anywhere ! :D), if the coin's registry checks out and it's graded by a TPG...that plus the protection should be enough.

Should also be good enough for online, too: Heritage, Stacks, Great Collections, and even Ebay. Though I doubt you find the quality on Ebay.

Congrats, it is a beautiful coin. Can I ask WHEN you bought it ?

I wouldn't be worried about it's authenticity if it's slabbed by NGC or PCGS.
I'd be worried about paying and not receiving it.

As for when I got it, best guess is about 10 years ago.
I'm in the process of getting my inventory in order.
After that I'll try and get my paperwork in order.

Depending on exactly when, you paid a huge premium to gold bullion based on this chart. As you can see, the premiums for MS65's and other high-quality Saints (including 1907 HR's) was probably 75-150% as gold moved up to the 2011 peak.

While we have had a blip up in 2020, we are still way down from the premiums of 2008-15. Note that the premium began to fall for the MS65 Saints months before the actual price of gold fell. MS65 Saint Pricing 1997-2020.jpg

Regardless of what those who haven't ever bought a 5 digit dollar coin on eBay, I've acquired many, generally no problem for an educated individual.

I, and believe many others here, would guarantee this coin, and the seller:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/1907-High-...060603?hash=item5b7df2617b:g:ORwAAOSwmrBfQbae

    My experience: NEVER A PROBLEM!
