I don't have any of those.

Excellent JA, Wiki is a bit short on the subject. Where does P. Plautius Hypsaes fit in, do you know? Wiki has even less on him.

I've never been able to find anything significant on him. He was obviously some sort of moneyer in cahoots with (or imitating) Scaurus, but evidently didn't accomplish anything noteworthy (or nefarious) enough to be recorded in the annals of history, other than on the denarii he issued.

Incidentally, I think the survival rate of the camel denarii is directly related to their popularity as collectibles from the time they were minted. They are readily available in all grades. I don't think the Romans were any different than we are when it comes to collecting interesting coins from pocket change, ie., "I want one of those cool new denarii of Scaurus." Probably many of them went into collections the moment they came off the dies.

Interesting thought JA. I noted that Pliny the Elder said that Scaurus was the first known collector of carved gems. It also mentions that his massacres are mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Is there anything online about that?

Those are fantastic Pish, glad yer' doing better! I like the detail on the Hadrian. And who doesn't like camels? They're sweet coins. ;)

Carthago Does this look infected to you?

It's a fabulous type and a complicated design that's seems virtually impossible to get 100% on flan. I personally prefer the scorpion version. It's a really common type and you'll find lots to choose from if you start shopping. Look at lots of them and find one that has the design elements important to you. Here's mine:
