Once proof coinage resumed in 1968, the Mint made a conscience effort to make proofs with the most desirable "Cameo" effect. From 1968 to 2006, the Mint created the most beautiful proof coins ever...with highly polished, acid treated dies. Your Ike Dollar is a beautiful example of the pinnacle of U.S. Mint proof coinage. The new laser frosting process doesn't compare. Cameo proofs of these years are the rule, not the exception, so most people don't value them highly. That still doesn't make them any less beautiful. I think they will become better appreciated in future years.
