The factory owners didn&#039;t have any money to pay their employees. The Spink guide lists prices for the Maundy coins in the circulated grades. Many of these coins were spent, not collected. The trouble was, there were not enough of them to put a dent in the coin shortage. People called them &quot;wire money&quot; because they were so thin. </p><p><br /></p><p>The temporary solution was the Condor tokens.
