Mostly silver 13th & 14th century, Scotlands largest ever hoard found by detectorists. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ied-treasure-Scotland-metal-detectorists.html
Not to demean this wonderful find, but most collectors 55 years old and older will most likely never get to purchase any of these coins. Pull out a hundred or so for the local historical society or museum and sell the rest. The average viewer wouldn't know if they were looking at something rare or not. The rest can be sold to anxious collectors.
The coin depicts a face that only a mother could love, could this be a reason for burial? Cool find never the less, could have belonged to one of my ancestors.
Odds are, they will end up in the trade. In the mean time, there is no shortage of available Edward I and II pennies. Personally, I'm always pleased when significant hoards remain intact in public collections for the benefit of all.
