I have no doubts really that the Morgan is PL. But that is also subject to the toning which slightly gets in the way of the mirrors. And I am not sure if it would benefit from a light dip or not. My question is do you think it has enough frost to go DPL. I can read text from approximately 4-5 inches away.
Agreed, looks PL. I would dip it (gradually) if it were my coin; I like PL Morgans white personally. Question is has it been dipped already and how will the surfaces fare after you do.
I realized that I already did a GTG on this one a couple years ago. It has been freed from the NNC tomb. Could you PM with your thoughts on the correct dip to use? I have never dipped a coin before. And this is one that seems the best to try my luck.
PL. If it had colorized toning id leave it alone. Another thing to consider is what could be hidden under the dark toning?
True, always wise to consider. In this case I don’t think the brown toning is doing the coin any favors and it’s worth the risk as the result could be a much more pleasing PL coin, even if it reveals more contact marks. Just my opinion of course.
Agreed the toning isn't very pleasing. When I bought it the toning was more of a rosie color. Now it is starting to get dark and makes the coin un attractive. I wish I had Kurt Bellmans kodak recipe.
I plan on giving this a dip. I will update the photos after it is finished. Too bad my local coin dealer is closed today.
