Simple construction:

Old shoe box
Empty pill bottles filled with coins for weight (sand would work fine...probably better)
A piece of glass from a broken picture frame
Pieces of packing materials to create the backing and light filter
An old watch can (watch was sold in a can) also filled with coins for weight (sand would work here too)
An LED light I got off Amazon for cheap
A knockout center from a foam cushion (used to lift coin off of backing)
An old iPhone 5 that I kept since they were only going to give me $50 as a trade-in
Given that the camera in the phone is reasonable (they have gotten much better over time), I'm able to take decent shots in very short order. With a better camera, I bet I can do better with the quick shots. The watch can is nearly the perfect height to set the distance between the object coin and the camera. I don't have to fidget much. Someone suggested a ping-pong ball to further block light that causes glare on the coin. It worked!! Here's the thing, Willy. Without a major expense and a small investment of time, you can begin to master your photography of coins. I find it fun...albeit sometimes it can be frustrating. Give it a shot! You might have as much fun as I did building it and taking pictures to post here. Good luck!!
