Happily, I've copied and enlarged the scan of my coin on this forum, and I'm pretty sure it has the tail on the 2. It is not hard to copy and paste web pics of coins to Word, and then enlarge them to see the details.

Yes, this coin has the "tail" on the end of the 2! I think I'll hang on to it.

I am new to this forum and even though this thread is quite old, I wanted to make a few comments regarding the elusive 1772 LM JM double dot Pillar Dollar. I am sorry to say my own opinion is all the 1772's posted in this thread with the exception of the one in the Superior Auction are fakes. (The one in the auction appears to be coin shown in Gilboy right down to the mark on the field between the Right Pillar and the "M" in UNUM. This is a very rare coin and anyone looking to acquire one should be very cautious. All three of the real specimens I am aware of came from the same obverse die and have very clear markers. I agree that if you believe your coin to be real, you should send it to Rick Ponterio, or possibly Mike Dunigan, and have it verified. I would then suggest sending it in to NGC to be slabbed. As for the 1772 with the counterstamp, in my humble opinion both the coin and the counterstamp are fake.
