Thats not my philosophy but it IS no doubt 100% fake for the same reason I said earlier. The entire coin is smooth, but the date is sharp. Not possible. We are dealing in absolutes now. 100% fake. Yes, I know you THINK it is fake. No think. Just FAKE.

This has already been mentioned. You're a little late with this, but nonetheless welcome to the discussion. The accepted notion/belief that only 5 nickels were made (as documented) does seem to leave no room for a genuine 6th nickel. There is one caveat however... what if the documented figure is incorrect? It wouldn't be the first time something of such prominence was incorrectly documented.

As for the coin could never be sold on eBay... it could. All someone has to do is list it on eBay. I understand you're saying that someone in the know would most likely not list it on eBay. That makes a whole lot of sense to you and me. However, to someone that doesn't know better, they might just do such a thing. If a Picasso painting could sell for $2 in a garage sale then this is possible.

Does everyone see what I'm dealing with here? This is a good example of what I was saying before about some people's "it can't be real because it just seems too unlikely or too good to be true" mentality.

You said it: "That's not my philosophy"

I'm not going to try to convince you that your philosophy is right or wrong. I'm only going to point out how your philosophy differs from mine.

You're philosophy blindly accepts this coin is absolutely fake cause the odds are infinitesimally small that it is genuine.

My philosophy acknowledges that the odds of it being genuine are infinitesimally small, but acknowledges that their is a remote possibility it could be genuine*.

I hope you can at least acknowledge that my philosophy is not wrong or right either - such as I have done with yours.

Boys, the auction has ended, apparently pulled by eBay, so what's the point in discussing this any further...? :)

Ayup. And then he called Santa Claus and all the little green men so that they could bid on the auction. That's exactly what happened, I'm sure.

I bet there's a time machine involved somewhere. Maybe some miracles too.

By the way, a friend of mine is selling a toll bridge in Brooklyn. He's tired of standing there collecting the money, but smart people like us know that you could hire people to do that. Interested?

Oh, absolutely! I'm with you 100%. The coin is definitely almost something that could be real in some alternate drug enhanced reality on a very cold day in hell with marshmallows and hot cider. I bet it could get a CAC sticker too.

By the way, another friend has some gold bricks he's selling cheap. They COULD be gold, or goldish or at least gold colored and you never know: he might not know what he's got! You should hurry and put in an offer because I understand that Wonder Woman is thinking about buying them. Just now she's busy saving the world from the little green men who want that 1913 nickel , so if I were you, I'd jump in right away!

Except there is no valid proof that the mint is wrong in its figures, therefore the certainty in my mind that this coin is fake stays at 100%.

You didn't? Well, that beats all. My friend still has those gold bricks if you'd like to make an offer? The toll bridge opportunity is, alas, gone, due to some legal malarkey that I won't bore you with.

Well the mint IS wrong in its figures, because it's figure for the 1913 V Nickel is ZERO. There are NO official figures for the mintage because there can't be, they were struck unofficially without authorization.

I think it has a 67% of being real. He probably figured it was real and pulled it. What a find for them.

    My sentiments exactly :)

We have some rather astounding "optimism" here, don't we?
