If I have a really tough question, I check the RB again. If I can't find an answer, I search the forums. If my search returns nothing, I post a thread. However, you can get one of those laser guns that test the metal's density (was showed on Hardcore Pawn, I guess it's a metallurgy testing device) but that would run you around 12-15k...not quite cost effective.
