Ok, lets think about this. It is far far easier for a mod to delete a thread.; modifications take a lot of time. The modifications are not for intellectual comments pro/con, but for violation of the rules. So if a thread has 10 posts and then a " Rules don't apply to me" person posts with a included violation, you want the thread deleted instead of modified to within the rules? What if it was a thread of 250 posts, and the violator just wanted to make people mad or revenge for a perceived slight and get the thread deleted? The simple solution is for posters to not violate the rules~ keep to the 1950s TV shows language~. Read the rules! BUT, this is evidently not possible, so the 2nd best solution is to report violations by a post ( the triangle with "!" in it in the bottom margin of the post) as soon as possible so mods can deal with it. Most will be edited, some may be deleted, but the thread will normally stay unless entirely spam. Jim
Sorry. You are absolutely right however, mods have the capability of editing posts as shown by the red notations they leave behind. Why can't the reply be saved yet the content of the reply deleted along woith a notation indicating the violation? That would still leave a bit of a trail where future posters could see that a post was made. I asked my original question when I saw that the OP was the last to reply to the thread on the main page yet when I opened the thread I saw that the last post was by jeffb. I was then scond guessing what I thought I'd seen.
I caught it because I was riding in a vehicle reading this thread on my phone today. I knew the post wouldn't last. What you missed in a nutshell: OP came back and basically flew off the handle including some choice language. Made an extensive post criticizing people in this thread of having no lives other than this forum and of being bullies (getting to be one for the first time in their lives),hiding behind computers. I hope I was not perceived as being a bully but some people are just wound too tight. I didn't think there was anything THAT offensive posted here but many people are easily offended on forums.
A lot of people come here seeking advice, grade, value, etc. etc. and don't like what they receive. Newbs, you got to love them.
For that we give BBC infractions, such as having to play nothing but the themesong from the Benny Hill program on your ipod. I feel that the mods and administrators are very mellow, we just feel the rules should be upheld as much as possible, What really raises most ire is when someone tries to loophole around them Jim
