This is a Three Cent Nickel dated 1865 thus making it the first year of issue for this type. Some consider this to be a Civil War coin and by the date I must agree although not many of them circulated during the war.</p><p>Total mintage was 11,382,000. They were designed by James B. Longacre and they were all minted in Philadelphia, every year of their existence. They are 3/4’s copper and 1/4 nickel in composition and they weighed 1.94 grams. This coin would make a low VF grade.
