Some time today or last night I reached this figure so thanks to all who made me reach this many. In honor of this gray I’m showing one of my Three Cent Coins. This is a Three Cent Nickel dated 1865 thus making it the first year of issue for this type. Some consider this to be a Civil War coin and by the date I must agree although not many of them circulated during the war. Total mintage was 11,382,000. They were designed by James B. Longacre and they were all minted in Philadelphia, every year of their existence. They are 3/4’s copper and 1/4 nickel in composition and they weighed 1.94 grams. This coin would make a low VF grade. Three Cent Nickels came about as the earlier Three Cent Silver Pieces or Trimes, were hoarded by the public.
Count me as 59,001! I thought that having the vertical lines visible in the reverse would at least put you into AU, but maybe I'm wrong and you're judging by the obverse? Either way, congrats on your milestone and thanks for sharing! It looks better than any 3 cent piece I've got so far!
So what's not to like? Likable fellow. Amiable sort. Most helpful in many ways regarding the hobby. Always ready to lend a hand, I salute you, dear fellow......
I believe what holds it back in grade is the lack of Liberty’s hair. The lines just aren’t there. The reverse will grade higher but who wants to not see Liberty?
I’ll never catch you but I’ve got you beat on posts. Lol You’re a great addition to CT sir and I really enjoy your posts.
