I used to have a full set of American Eagles in Lucite sheets like a book. I was very nice for a display!

Who's signature is on the lucite display?

I have no idea! My wife and I could not make any sense of the signature.

    Could it be Gilroy Roberts?

That would be neat, if so.

And that would make sense, in association with a Kennedy half.

I can't really tell for sure. Kinda looks like it.

There's an example of his signature here.

Also, Lucite coin paperweights were popular in this era, so I would assume the paperweight is contemporary with the coin.

    Neat item.

I had this old Nassau (Bahamas) souvenir paperweight with various coins in it (British, East Caribbean, and Haitian). Judging from the BU grade and 1958 date on the Haitian coin, not to mention the seemingly strange assortment of countries, it was pretty obvious that this paperweight was made with coins that circulated in the Bahamas prior to the advent of their own coinage in 1966. So it's fairly old.

I swapped it to @H8_modern in what was to become my very first CoinTalk transaction.

It was a cool item, but the red background was a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it made a handsome backdrop for the coins, but on the other hand, it prevented one from seeing the other side of them.

@H8_modern , I see why you like them. You have some very cool pieces!

    Where do you find them?

A lot of them came from antique stores, some from various coin shops, coin club auctions and 1 from @lordmarcovan. I’ve paid up for some of them and some came cheap. The round one with Sacajawea is a mint product as is the blue one with state quarters. I think I paid the most for the diamond shaped one with a Morgan in it, around $50 I think.

Thanks! I just checked out eBay and wasn't enamored with any of the choices. Some were okay, but not nice enough to me to buy. Yet.

Have one on my Office desk. I’ll take a pick tomorrow. Has very nice BU Franklins and such... I often wonder what collectors a hundred years from now will think when they see these nice pieces pieces living in plastic. I love em too.

PS- @H8_modern- your Lucite-entombed collection is of course incomplete until you get one of the toilet seats with coins in it! ;)

A local shop had one and I considered it but instead of asking melt+$20-50, he wanted 2-3x melt as if it were a valuable collectible. Plus my wife already thinks I’m a little crazy so if I mount a toilet seat to the wall, that might be the final straw.

    Not on the wall, silly!

(Unless you have horizontal projectile-pooping skills. Then by all means, DO mount it on the wall- after you paint a target there and put a plastic dropcloth underneath.)

Who hangs a toilet seat on the wall? :hilarious:

Who puts their butt on their collectibles? Maybe I should spray disinfectant on the stuff I’ve gotten from you.:D
