Buffalo stats are lower than I expected, but Silver War are right on expectations. The 2009Ds though are really above what I would ever guess (my equivalent would be the 2009Ps and I only averaged maybe 2 a box).

Yeah here in San Antonio I find a lot of them. I don't know the story behind it but a ton of them are dumped around here. I still keep every one I find

Nice finds. Something for folks to consider. 1982 nickels in high grades are worth saving (AU/BU). No mint sets so high grade business strikes have value. True of 83 and 87 if I remember correctly (check Red Book for dates).

So I'm finishing up this box and will have it posted by tonight. I came across this buffalo and I'm curious if this is a misplaced mint mark. There are some known where the "D" is stamped on the "C" in cents. Does this look like a D stamped on the bottom E? Maybe just damage?

I have been studying your thread. I have bought one case as homework. I plan to get another in the morning.

BIG difference between nickels and pennies. Apples and onions.

I know you got a way to read dates at high speed. You are like an old time morse code guy!!! Your visually several coins ahead of your brain! That is intense to maintain!

I laid out in a simple mayrix on an 8 1/2 by 11. Then i added 3 pages of matrixed overflow to 2003. That is filling up. I just wanted to post a statistical analysis of a box. .........or 2. Now - i am thinking about a bar graph in nickels!!!!!!!

Using an 8.5x11 sheet of paper divided into sections is a great way to organize your finds. Especially when moving fast...you can place it in the section to confirm later.

I can complete a box in 2 hours. I flip every single nickel looking for a rotated die error. When I get into my groove I can get moving. My eyes are prone to finding even small die chips. Years of staring at The obverse and reverse of this coin has distilled the image into my brain. So even at a good pace I can pick up on small imperfections.

After blasting out 60,000 pennies in80 days - i hear ya Brothers!!!

Nickels are a two dimensional game over time it seems. Yes, we love to hit the high of a V or war silver (new term for me) coin, but old dates are really cool and keep coming too!

Dat, your game involves $50,000.00!!! That could be a $5000.00 coin buyback!!!! Do you also roll back your coins? Who(!!!), and i mean this seriously, who CAN buy all those nickels from you?

Using the green machine for pennies - yea, but nickels can hurt - especially at your level????

    I got a list.....

Will 500 boxes be enough to fill a book???

AND, shouldn't you be doing 2 books and rolling the coins older than 1960?

I forgot to mention i have only been collecting the classical Jefferson and back.

What do yall think of the collectibility vs work vs overhead of the newer issues?

Thanks again for your thread and the tutoring and the fun ride!!

I have been doing this for years and have a perfect system down I believe. I DO NOT waste my time wrapping coins back up. I have two different banks Chase and a Credit Union. So I will brake down below what I do.

"How do you get so many nickel boxes?"

I have 6 Chase banks and 5 Credit Union banks within a 10 mile radius from where I live. Every week I pick up 2 boxes from 3 Chase locations and one box from the other 3 Chase banks for a total of 9 boxes from Chase. I use two locations from my Credit Union to pick up one box each a week as well for a total of 11 boxes a week. The other three Credit Union banks are my dump bank.

But keep in mind sometimes I dont get my nickels from certain Chase banks if they Are running low or they forgot to order. But it averages around 9-11 boxes a week.

"How do you dump so many nickles back to the bank a week!"

The other 3 Credit Union locations I have are STRICTLY dump banks. They have FREE coin dump machines that will count your change and give you a ticket to bring to the teller as long as you have a account. At the same time I DO NOT like filling there machines up and have it down to a point. Each machine can hold $400 in nickels before getting filled. The three banks are on my way to the gym so I dont waste gas. I put in anywhere from $300 to $360 in each machine in the morning (they empty the machines at closing the day before) the machines are 3X faster then a coinstar. I take three buckets with me in my car and just dump one bucket at each bank get my ticket and deposit it to my checking account which is also FREE!

"Do the tellers at these banks hate you, give you problems,or do you feel embarrassed?"

Nope! Not at all! I have always been honest and told them I do this for the love of the hobby I even educate them on coins to look for and show them pictures of my recent finds. Best thing to do is be honest and dont lie.

Plus my tellers love me as I always reward them the first of the month with a giant batch of cookies. I am a firm believer in taking care of your tellers if they are going out of there way to take care of you. Remember these boxes you pick up cost the bank money. And banks DO NOT like to lose money. Make it worth it for them and take care of them. It will come back to you 10 fold I promise :)
